Constructing Multi-mode Dynamic Talent-cultivation Mode for
Communications Engineering

Abstract: To meet the needs of creative education, the mode reformation of communication talent
cultivation has been a key problem. In this paper, the deficiencies of the current talent cultivation mode
is analyzed firstly then a multi-mode dynamic talent-cultivation model is presented, combing our school
curriculum for communications engineering major with the problems in the process of creative
education. Some considers and practices in setting specialty curricula are introduced.

1 Introduction
With the advent of knowledge-economics era, creative education and quality-education has been
enforced in general universities. What’s more, curriculum issues have been paid more and more
attention by the whole society. The creative education of electronics and communications specialties has
been explored by education officers who worked on such fields, which obtaines the good achievement.
However, there are still problems existing in the education of electronics and communications
specialties:
1)Outmoded course content; focusing excessively on the inheritance of class work; relying excessively
on classical knowledge; owning less knowledge of new technology.
2) Lagging Teaching methods; paying excessive attention to memorization and imitation; lack of the
developing of comprehensive analysis and self-learning ability.
3) Outdated education resources and wretched references left students less chance to choose.
4) The passive acceptance of knowledge; less chance of practice;
All of these cannot adapt to the development of imformation technology. They even become a stumbling
block for our electronic talents to struggle in the international competition in the 21 century.
As a result, traditional modes of talents cultivation led to the adrift of the knowledge and ability of
students and the development of society, which hinders the employment of university students. A new
foresighted dynamic mode of talents cultivation is badly needed.
2 Constructing new curriculum system and talent-cultivation mode to adapt
creative education
2.1 Investigating to make sure the orientation of talent cultivation standards
Through “walk-out” and “come-in” strategy, the education reform and the situation of talents cultivation
of communications engineering at home and abroad can be known. Key points and the plan of reforming
course system can be sure by analyzing the kind of talents is needed in new situation.
After the reformation of enrolment, we have worked out a new cultivation method which incarnates the
combination of subject intersect and subject specialty, focusing on students, centering on the
improvement of quality, emphasizing the development of leaning, creation and practice ability. So a
“2+1+1” multi-mode is defined.
2.2 Constructing the curriculum system possessing solid academic foundation with high quality
and flexible adaptation to new changes and profound potential capacity.
The basic idea of reforming curriculum system is to design steps of course and development based on
overall knowledge instead of professional information and centred in learners instead of teachers. To

construct “2+1+1” multi-mode course so that the optimization of knowledge, ability and quality can be
obtined. The “2+1+1” multi-mode that referred means that the four-year of university can be divided
into three periods. The courses are set according to principles as follows: courses in the firs t two years
are designed according to subject; then the third year profession according to professional; and the fouth
year according to the need of enrolment market.
According to attaching equal importance to both quality education and profession education, through the
comprehensive cultivation mode “2+1+1”, the design of course is based on the principle as follows the
first two years of general education and basic professional education is to improve the quality of
students; senior years of characteristic professional education to improve the innovative energy and
practice ability of students. Three grades and five modules curricula system which conclude general
education course, basic professional education course and multi-modes professional education course is
constructed.

Comparing to the traditional scheme of cultivation, first of all, the new one has “inspirational education”,
the aim of which is to set up a clear study aim, correct values, positive outlook and good teamwork spirit.
Secondly “career planing” course is added in the second year which hires career planers who are both
rich in psychology theory and professional exprereice to guide the students to plan career. So that the
students will get a better understanding of themselves and can adequately analyze their interestes, strong
points and mode of thinking and so on.
From the third year on, the course module is designed individually according to students’ specialty,
which consists two parts: professional core course and facultative course that can be adjusted
dynamically.
Professional core courses locate in the development of theory analysis and the comprehensive practice
creative ability. There are three core courses directions:” communications technology” and”
communications signal processing”. On one hand, more options can be supplied to students; on the other
hand, teachers of professional course can strengthen their teaching and research.
On the premise of complete the professional core course, the facultative course that can be adjusted
should be designed by the characteristics of each students and the enrolment after graduation. For
example, according to the different needs of companies, research, marketing, comprehensive and
managing course can be designed.
As to research types, the students interets in technological discoveries and inventions, especially in

developing products. They prefer to practise, so that the course should have a bias towards the use of
tools and radical professional principle. Typical courses conclude: the priciple and application of
Single-Chip computer, DSP and EDA and so on. For marketing type students, they are good at
communicating so that the major points of the course are no high degree of expertise but considerable
general knowledge. Typical courses concluede: SDH technology, the Broadband IP MAN, Intelligent
Network, up-to-date communication technique and so on. For managing types (operation types), they
mainly interested in the circulation of operating and managing, so that the course will focus on the
industry knowledge, basic managing knowledge and so on. Typical courses are: data communication,
communication network, modern switching principles, mobile communication priciples, multimedia
communication technique and so on. The word “dynamic”in multi-mode dynamic course means that the
courses can be adjusted according to the need of the society, which is of great importance to the
enrolment of students. As well the courses should wed the need of companies closely.

2.3 Combining creative education and technique ability development with education
administration
Innovation ability should be based on practice, supported by the ability of study, reflected by the
practical ability, thinking ability, the research capabilities. We attach great importance to focus on
cultivation students in the sense of innovation, practical ability, analysis and synthesis capability, the
spirit of cooperation and so on. We have the classroom teaching and laboratory experiments in a
teaching program, initially established a relatively complete system of practice teaching.
Practical teaching includes cognition practice, production internships, curriculum design, innovative
practice, curriculum experiment (experimental courses), graduate internships, and graduate design, as
follows Table3.
On the other hand, the management of the second class technique activities is disciplined, which
strengthens the operability of develop the creative ability of students. The basic idea of the second class
is centered on students and it is a process of “learn-research-practice”. Special instructors will organize
the second class activities deliberately to encourage students to take part in every kind of innovation
activities, which have good effects.

In order to obtain good effects, on the base of western experience, practice rules and steady work base is
constructed, so that students can work in companies, government and other institutions on certain time.
Students’ ability of professional practice, society practice and interpersonal intercourse can be improved.
The base that students want to cooperate with can be chosen by the enrolment desire. From the second
and third years’ vacation on, students can go there to practice. In order to make companies have no
trouble at home, students with low practice ability will go back to have new cultivation. The credit of
students is based on the feedback of companies.

3 Conclusion
Though we have some achievements in reforming course system and in cultivation talents, there are still

many problems need to be considered and soloved. With the development of electronic communication,
new problems will occur in the reform of professional course system. We will give further reformation
to the professional course to adpat the development of technology.
