I hope that you will take the time to log on with me before July 13th.
I want to know that you can access everything you need for the course.
Thank you!
Has it been a while since you have done algebra? Have you ever touched
trigonometry? This course will get you prepared to move on into areas of study
requiring a solid base in algebra and trigonometry.
This course is designed with your success in chemistry and physics in mind. A
solid base in algebra is essential for success in these courses. The trigonometry is
key to your success in physics. In addition, the way of thinking that is important in
this review will prepare you well for not just chemistry and physics, but it will also
get your mind working well for other pre-med courses you will encounter.
During our live/online “meetings,” I will present material and answer your
questions. Also, I will provide you with plenty of opportunity to practice the skills I
present. Doesn’t that sound fun?
We will cover the basics of algebra: operations on signed numbers, rules of
exponents, order of operations, solving linear equations, solving literal equations,
solving linear inequalities, solving absolute value equations and inequalities,
Cartesian coordinate system, slope, forms of line equations, graphing, polynomial
vocabulary, operations on polynomials, factoring, solving quadratic equations and
higher-order equations, solving linear systems of equations, and logarithms.
In trigonometry, topics will include: right triangle trigonometry, trigonometric
functions, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, and graphing of
trigonometric functions.
You will be graded on quizzes and a final examination. I will average your quiz
average and your final examination grade to calculate your final grade in this
course.
I also pay close attention to your promptness in getting to class and your
participation during each session.
I will be available to “meet” live/online by appointment for office hours.
You will work hard and learn so much! You will feel well-prepared to use your
skills from this course! I look forward to working with you!
Office Hours
I will happily arrange to “meet” with you, if you wish. Please just let me know if you
are interested. You and I will find a mutually convenient time to “meet.”
If you need help, please ask!
Final grade for the class is based upon:
Quiz Average: 50%
and
Final Examination: 50%.
FINAL EXAMINATION: Due to me by Wednesday, July 29th, at 10:00 PM
Make-up quizzes are not given. It is in your best interest to take every quiz and the
final examination. If you miss any of these, you earn a 0% for it.
You are expected to actively participate in this course. If you need help, you need to
be responsible and get in touch with me. We are in this together!
I am looking forward to working with you so that you will have a solid grasp on this
important material. Having a solid understanding of this material will pave the way for
a successful future!
Do you require special accommodations? Please let me know by Friday afternoon,
July 17, 2015, at 4:00 PM. I would be happy to accommodate you!
