on Climate Change 2006 – 2015
(PIFACC)
REGIONAL SYNTHESIS
 Regional
Synthesis undertaken in 2010 by
UNSDIR, UNDP and GFDRR;
 Focus
on Institutional and Policy Analysis of
seven countries (Cook Islands, FSM, Fiji,
Palau, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.
REGIONAL SYNTHESIS

Regional Synthesis Analysis noted:
‘…that while there may be institutional arrangements
that suggest progress with integration at the
national policy and institutional levels, the practical
reality is that very little is happening on the
ground…’
REGIONAL SYNTHESIS Challengers
 Capacity constraints (related to lack of
political will, coordination, communication,
insufficient
funds
and
absence
of
expertise;
 Separate
global and regional frameworks
for DDR and CCA;
 Difficulty
in quantifying the benefits from
DRR and CCA.
ROUNTABLE OUTCOME
2011 Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk
Management and Climate Change Roundtable
meeting agreed to:

Strengthen the process for developing an
integrated strategy; and

Expedite the development of an integrated
strategy.
ROUNTABLE OUTCOME
2013 Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk
Management and Climate Change Roundtable
meeting endorsed the:
Roadmap towards a Strategy for
Disaster and Climate Change Resilient
Development in the Pacific (SRDP) 2015
SRDP 2015 Process

represent the interest of the Pacific Region.
Members from SPREP, SPC – SOPAC, RDM,
PMC, FEMM; and
 Technical
Committee – Expert Advice
(evidence based policy and strategies)
Members from SPC, SPREP, UNSDIR, UNDP,
PIFS and USP.
WAY FORWARD
Outputs by 2015

SRDP 2015;

Regional Synthesis Report on the
implementation of the current regional
frameworks (RFA & PIFACC); and

Compendium of case studies on DRR and
CCA in the Pacific.
CONCLUSION
The Pacific is in the process of fully
integrating DRM and CCA into a single
overarching policy framework.
