3. Educ 209 New Course Proposal & Teacher Education Core Modified Program Proposal
Kupper explained the background behind the proposal to add Educ 209 Teacher Education
Orientation to the Education Core. As the Dean of Education, she will determine if transfer courses
meet the School of Education requirement for Educ 208. A list of acceptable courses from other
institutions will be sent to Student Records
Kearney made a motion to approve the proposals as presented. Second – Citrin. There was a
unanimous vote to approve.
4. Elementary content knowledge requirements – Citrin
Citrin made a motion to allow Bio 130 General Biology as an alternative option to Bio 102
Introductory Zoology for the content knowledge course requirements for Elementary
Education . Second – Blue.
Currently, Bio 102 Introductory Zoology is the biology course required for all elementary education majors to
take. However, questions have arisen regarding whether Bio102 is being taught as a general survey course for
biology that was initially implied during the content knowledge course selection process, versus one that is
offered specifically for science majors only. In addition, Bio 102 isn’t available to the students completing
this program through the Annex site, which has them taking a general biology course through another
institution in order to meet our program requirements.
There being no further discussion, the question was called and vote taken. The motion carried
with one abstention.
