Calculator: required TI-83+ or higher Course Description: In this course, we will cover basic circular functions and their inverse, trigonometric identities and equations, triangle trigonometry, the law of Sines and the law of Cosines. Course coverage: Chapter 5: Trigonometric Functions 5:1: Angles and Their Measure 5:2: Trigonometric Functions: A Unit Circle Approach 5:3: Solving Right Triangles 5:4: Properties of Trigonometric Functions 5:5: More General Trigonometric Functions 5:6: Inverse Trigonometric Functions Chapter 6: Trigonometric Identities and Conditional Equations 6:1: Basic Identities and Their Use 6:2: Sum, Difference and Cofunction Identities 6:3: Double-Angle and Half-Angle Identities 6:4: Product-Sum and Sum-Product Identities 6:5: Trigonometric Equations Chapter 7: Additional Topics in Trigonometry 7:1: Law of Sines 7:2: Law of Cosines Grades: (% of class grade) 3 Tests: 25% each. Dates to be announced Homework and in-class quizzes: 25% Homework: Homework will be assigned in class and should be completed before the next class period. We will review homework in class. Periodically I will collect homework which will be graded and count as part of the final class grade. If you are not in class the day I collect homework or give a quiz, your grade will be a zero for that assignment or quiz. Note: *** In-class quizzes and homework will not be made-up. The lowest grade in quizzes or homework will be dropped. *** If I am not contacted prior to exam time and you are absent for an exam, your score for that exam will be a zero. The only accepted excuses will be participation in a UWO sanctioned event, or illness. For both proof will be required. Tentative dates for exams: There will be three one hour exams given during regular class hours. Exam dates will be announced. Grading scale: 92-100 A 88-91 AB 82-87 B 78-81 BC 70-77 C 60-69 D 0-60 F Attendance: Attendance will not be taken every day, but if for any reason you must miss more than two consecutive class periods, please contact the Dean of Students office (424-3100) so that your absences can be excused.
