Mission-driven Based Teaching Reform for Quality Education of Principle of Database System MAO Jun School of Computer Science and Technology, Henan Polytechnic University, Jiaozuo, Henan 454000 Abstract: At present, computer teaching in undergraduate institutions should serve for the students' employment. In the teaching reform of the Principles of database systems, which takes the SQL Server as the sample database, we should further deepen the concept of quality of education, put emphasis on student-centered approach and make use of enough cases of the curriculum. With the "mission-driven" approach, we will improve the students interesting in studying and promote the changing of classroom teaching from textbook to practice skills. Key words: Principles of Database Systems; quality education; mission-driven; teaching reform In today's society, technology develops rapidly. new subjects comes up one after another , sections of labor-division become more and more, which will urge the undergraduate institutions to organize teaching and learning activities in accordance with the requirements for qualified person of society . SQL Server, as a database management system, occupies an important position in the undergraduate school teaching because of its various advantages such as intuitional operator interface, easiness in data conversion, wide usage in society. With years of teaching experience, I think we should strengthen the curriculum's reform from the following aspects. 1 It is necessary to further deepen the concepts of quality education. We should know that the undergraduate students are under the pressure of labor-finding, but what the society needs are skilled workers. Therefore, teachers should change their teaching concepts, to cultivate creative students; they should change their teaching model from the previous teacher-centered to direct experience -centered activities-center and student-centered. Set up the concepts of quality of education. As the class of Principles of database systems, social needs should be valued. We should attach great importance to the students’ operating skills of Database System such as field of logistics, storage, customer service which will be widely used in society. First of all, we should explain to the students about specific requirements of the current community, so that everyone will have a preliminary understanding of their own employment environment and job demands .So that they can start to cope with study with a positive attitude; Secondly, students are required to sum up their learning experiences, For example after studying one software system they should try to learn the similar one; Thirdly, in the learning process students are required to make full use of teaching resources, and enhance hand-operating skills to avoid the phenomenon of "great ambition but puny ability"; Fourthly, the content which help the students develop the ability of information access, retrieval, analysis should be enhanced. 2 We should adopt the "mission-driven" method The so-called "mission-driven" approach refers to the decomposition of the content during the teaching of preparation and the reform in the organization of the teaching order based on the teaching materials. On this kind of class a model of scenarios proposed mission, drive students to study and explore the activities, understanding, acquire the relevant knowledge, combined with the actual needs of choices, summed up the completion of tasks and steps. First of all, adopt a "case-style" classroom-based teaching methods. With contents which students are familiar with--- "score management system" are elected as a classroom example of experience in teaching, it helps to increase students interesting in study, reducing the difficulty of studying, so that improve the quality of classroom teaching; Secondly, Computer operation should be arranged to verify their mastery study hard after class; Finally, Step by step the 764 students will have great interests in study and nurture the ability of independent learning. Specific practices are: 2.1 Focusing on examples of student life, two complete examples of database will be created and sub-system function module will be introduced to students. The teacher should clearly point out that this is completed information management system everyone should complete, in order to clear students’ learning objectives. 2.2 Two examples will be shown, so that students can have perceptual knowledge of database development, know database system which help us solve the practical problems.It can make our life and work much more easily. At the same time, students will be guided correctly. Principles of database systems are expounded a coherent curriculum, it need to have a clear understanding of principles of database systems and then to complete a small-scale production management system to enable students to establish of a complete framework for study in the minds. In this way, we guide the students to focus on the textbooks, to grasp the principle knowledge of database system. 2.4 In the course of classroom teaching of principles of database systems, we should always adhere to the "mission driven" teaching mainly in combination with other teaching methods appropriate to complete each section of the teaching. Example of the "information management system" decomposition results should be applied to each section of the Teaching. Each time before new lesson is given, students should have clear learning objectives after learning the whole process such as requirement analysis, data storage, program design and students operation. 3 Student-oriented methods should be reflected in the teaching process 3.1 We should guide students to reflect and sum up what they have learnt to strengthen the understanding of theoretical knowledge. Our students not only should learn how to "combat", but also should know the theory foundation, therefore, stressed the importance of theoretical knowledge should be stressed. To achieve this goal, students are requires to learn to think and sum up. Problems in process get to be explored by group discussions. Each individual thinking process, methods of operation are listed, So is the comparison in finding out a solution to the problem or even a shortcut. Then by referring to the textbook content the student can have a good command of the theory. 3.2 We should implementate "five steps” teaching and learning process in computer practice, improve the efficiency of student learning. In computer practice classes, students are prompted to understand the main task of this course is placed, and where the key points and teaching examples in the teaching computer. Ask students to do the following steps: the first step, practice textbook example, masters the basic functions of knowledge points; the second step, read the examples of teaching on class, and then complete mission of practical application by imitating. After while the teachers should explain the difficult parts that the students have. Finally, demonstrate some students’ designs which are special and using different idea and method to promote innovation. However, doing exercise and completing mission is not enough, they should also have to learn the theory and converse knowledge into the ability to complete the comprehensive mission. By pressing the module decomposition, functional demonstration of the production elements, such as implementation methods to explain the content so that students recognize that the development of application software SQL Server is a complete system, which can solve much problem in the work of our lives, in the end of the course, teaching contents should be combined, the contents of the software for a dismantling of the "mission", and gradually display. layout to give the student a good understanding by means of imitation ,creation step by step, and arrange students to do some work such as school management system, score management system, payment management system, school contacts system, supermarket management system, student assessment systems such as day-to-day acts of the content of curriculum design. And create a complete new management software to enhance students’ ability to use SQL Server database management system to develop system software, so that theory knowledge and operating skills are combined to help students take part in future work, to lay a solid foundation for their future career. 766 3.4 Consolidation period. The students, after discussion, If they have some new ideas ,teachers should encourage them and enhance what they have learnt. 3.5 Summary periods In mission-driven teaching model, teachers are mainly guided by methods, and students spend more time on the hand-on exploration, which result in the existence of different learning ability among students. In response to these questions, we ask teachers to strengthen the Classroom Summary and Review of knowledge points, so that students with poor learning ability or operation could keep up with the teachers’ progress of teaching and get a comprehensive mastery of knowledge points to the teaching requirements. 4 Evaluation reform In examination, we should abandon the idea that put too much emphasis on theories and written exam in the past. Now various forms of assessment are used to test students’ knowledge and practical ability, including the written and the experimental assessment, the ratio is 1:1 between them, emphasizing the importance of experimental evaluation. Experimental test take the form of the combination of final exam on computer and usual performance; usual training includes basic training and integrated training (course design), by using the "test baton", students are guided and supervised in many usual programming, and give excellent performance. In short, the undergraduate college database system curriculum should focus on the application of knowledge of teaching, emphasize on skills development, focus on students’ ability in linking theory with reality and practice, which is to mobilize the enthusiasm of students to learn, improve problem-solving ability is significant. In this paper, how to stimulate students’ intrinsic motivation to learn, and reform the teaching content, the use of mission-driven teaching method, as well as how to improve the examination system are explored and innovated. Experience are presented in teaching classes, teaching performance had been improved. However, in the process of teaching there have been some problems, such as students of uneven foundation, using sub-level teaching, which requires us to learn from advanced experience both at home and abroad.
