Accurate Live Salmonella Test
Inventors: Beilei Ge, Siyi Chen
Description:
This invention is a new set of DNA primers that allows scientists to
test for live Salmonella. The unique primers, when combined with
certain DNA amplification techniques, make many copies of a
particular piece of DNA found in Salmonella so that various tests can
detect the bacteria in very small samples of material. Chemicals are
added to distinguish between living and dead cells, further increasing
accuracy by making sure only living cells are copied. This is critical
for early detection and prevention of Salmonella contamination.
Complex, expensive equipment is not required to execute this
process.
Advantages:
Very accurate and sensitive
Very fast
Specific for live cells
Commercial Uses:
Salmonella detection in food
Rapid detection kits
