Cover of book unveiled at BRAC University
Cover unveiling ceremony of the book titled ‘Governmentality and Counter-Hegemony in
Bangladesh’ by Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at the Department of Economics and
Social Sciences of BRAC University SM Shamsul Alam was held at BRAC University in the
city recently, says a press release.
The event was hosted by the Anthropology Forum BRAC University.
Professor Alam in his book discussed various cases of revolt and popular uprisings in
Bangladesh by synthesising Foucault's theory of governmentality and Gramsci's notions of
hegemony and counter-hegemony.
The event also included a discussion on the themes and subject matter of Professor Alam’s book.
The programme was chaired by Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Syed Saad
Andaleeb.
Assistant Professor of Department of Anthropology of Jahangirnagar University Mahmudul
Hashan Sumon, commented on the book.
Chairperson (acting) of the Department of Economics and Social Sciences Professor Abdul
Bayes was also present in the launching ceremony of the book, according to Press Release./
