The chemical term for salt is sodium chloride (NaCl). - Essential co-products are caustic soda (sodium hydroxide (NaOH)) and hydrogen (H2). All three are highly reactive, and technologies have been developed to separate them and keep them apart Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant Co-product: Caustic soda and hydrogen - Caustic soda is an alkali and widely-used in many industries, including the food industry, textile production, soap and other cleaning agents, water treatment and effluent control. - Hydrogen is a combustible gas used in various processes including the production of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia as well as the removal of sulphur fro petroleum derivatives. Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant Chlorine: There are three methods to produce Chlorine: - The membrane cell process - The diaphragm cell process - The mercury cell process Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The chlor-alkali process electrolyzes NaCl(aq) to produce Cl2 (and other important chemicals) • Asbestos Diaphragm • Mercury-Cell • Membrane-Cell Electrolysis Plant http://www.bayertechnology.com/uploads/pics/chlorine_electrolysis_references_01.jpg Teknik elektrokimia Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The diaphragm cell Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The diaphragm cell Reaction: Anode: Cathode: Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The diaphragm cell Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The mercury cell Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The mercury cell Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The membrane cell Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant The diaphragm cell Teknik elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant Teknik Elektrokimia Chlor-alkali plant Hydrogen Handling NaOH Chlorine Drying Salt To Hypo Primary Treatment HCl Product HCl Storage Sulphuric Acid Carbon Dioxide Brine Demin.
