Physics 601 (Atomic Physics) second announcement J. H. Macek Office: 308 South College Building MWF Tel: 974-0770 email: [email protected] The lectures for Physics 601 are Monday 1.30-2.45 and Wedensday at 4.30-5.45 in room Physics 512. The text for the course is: Theoretical Atomic Physics (second edition) by H. Friedrich (Publisher: Springer, New York, 1998. (English Edition)). We will cover most of chapters I-IV of the text. Some addition material not in the text will also be included in the lectures. The problem assignment for the entire term is: Chapter 1, pages 59-61, problems 1.2, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.8; chapter 2, pages 117-119, problems 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6 and 2.7; chapter 3, pages 192-195, problems 3.1, 3.2, 3.5, 3.8, 3.9, 3.10; chapter 4, pages 266-270, problems 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.7, 4.11. In addition, some problems not included in the text will be assigned throughout the term. Grades will be based on problems (25%), midterm exam (35%) final exam (40%). You are strongly urged to complete the problems and the exams. If absolutely necessary, make up exams can be arranged, however, these will always be oral exams. A course Synopsis is given below.
