Name:
Lab 2 Scoring sheet
Assessed item
Abstract – should be about your partnership’s values
not the class overall, should be in proper format,
should be spell- and grammar-checked
Objective/Equipment & chemicals — Modification
of the setup noted (e.g., was a stir bar really used)? A
list of all equations used, in algebraic form?
Procedure — Modification of procedure noted? Did
you really use a laptop? the full 50 mL of ice?
Data — A spreadsheet of time/temperature data is
not necessary but there should be a table of masses
and initial and final temperatures
Data — A row in the table of densities of water at
the listed temperatures, and a full citation to the site
used to find the density (NOT JUST a URL)
Calculated results — Complete setup and
calculation of the molar heat of fusion of ice from
one trial’s measurements
Calculated results — Calculation of the mean heat of
fusion of the partnership’s trials
Calculated results — Calculation of the percent
error between the trial’s heats of fusion and the
value given in the text
Group results — All partnerships’ results
recorded in lab notebook
Group results — calculation of mean and standard
deviation with proper notation and units
Group results — Discussion of any outliers, and an
explanation for systematic error in your results
Post-lab question 1 — Assume that you used the
setup originally shown in the writeup
Post-lab question 2
Conclusion — Report class mean and standard
deviation in proper units and notation
Conclusion — Report class percent error versus
reference value
Conclusion — Comment on type of error suggested
by the spread of the data
Conclusion — Suggest a major error source(s)
and how this explains that type of error
