Climate Change and Water Resources Infrastructure
Climate change is one of the great challenges facing water resources infrastructure.
Effective climate change adaptation is especially important for the US Army Corps
of Engineers (USACE) because the hydrologic processes underlying water
resources management are very sensitive to changes in climate and weather. Our
Civil Works Program and associated water resources infrastructure represent a
tremendous Federal investment (~$400B over the past 50 years) that supports
public safety and local and national economic growth. Hence, we have a
compelling need to understand and adapt to climate change and variability. This
talk will present an overview of our climate change adaptation activities. For more
information, see http://www.corpsclimate.us/index.cfm
Bio: Kate White is a UNH (BSCE '82, MSCE '86) and UVM (PhD Civil and
Environmental Engineering '02) grad who was - happily - one of Nancy Kinner's
first grad students. She recently received the 2014 USACE Lieutenant General
Elvin R. “Vald” Heiiberg III Engineer of the Year Award.
