GSPPA: IV/2016/10 May 2016 Global Soil Partnership Plenary Assembly Fourth session Rome, 23-25 May 2016 Development of synergies with other initiatives, the case of the 4/1000 initiative This item has been put on the agenda for the information of the Plenary Assembly at the request of the Permanent Representation of France to FAO and an oral presentation on the scope of this initiative is scheduled to be made. Background information may be found at the following address: http://4p1000.org/. As indicated there, the 4‰ Initiative, launched by France, sets out to bring together all willing contributors in the public and private sectors (national governments, local and regional governments, companies, trade organisations, NGOs, research facilities, and others) under the framework of the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA). The aim is to demonstrate that agriculture, and agricultural soils in particular, can play a crucial role where food security and climate change are concerned. The development of synergies with other ongoing initiatives is of particular interest. This document is printed in limited numbers to minimize the environmental impact of FAO's processes and contribute to climate neutrality. Delegates and observers are kindly requested to bring their copies to meetings and to avoid asking for additional copies. Most FAO meeting documents are available on the Internet at www.fao.org E
