* The figures for 1999 and 2000 are forecasts, but for 1999 are based
on the first six months of collected data.
The ratios are computed
from raw numbers. All columns cover not just commodities (shangpin),
but also the labor/service (laowu) components (of GDP, exports, and
imports).
The term "Taiwan" throughout this essay, when used for
statistical reporting, includes certain islands in Fujian.

rounded from the original.

NOTES:
This ROC table does not include exports to the mainland, but
much of the reported Hong Kong total surely went there.
ASEAN
membership changed in this period; the term here refers to its five
founding nations. All percentages are calculated. The residual "other"
category was calculated as the difference between the total and the
export destinations for which figures are listed.
* The 1999 amounts and portions are for the first seven months only.
