JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the operation of District’s enterprise-level systems: the enterprise
resource planning system (ERP), Oracle databases and the Oracle database management system
(DBMS), the underlying Unix and Linux servers and operating systems (Solaris and Red Hat).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensure the ongoing currency and integrity of College databases. Develop and
maintain procedures for monitoring the state of all Oracle databases. This
includes the management of sizing models, log archives, backup and recovery
processes, and similar database functions. Take corrective actions as
appropriate to ensure the health of the database and to minimize crashes,
lockups or loss of data. Perform tasks in a proactive mode and automate these
processes whenever possible.

2. Develop and maintain procedures for monitoring the state of the Unix and Linux
database servers, and the Oracle application servers (10g and higher).

3. Oversee the Sungard Banner products, including Banner Self Service for
student, faculty, finance and human resources. Work with users in the
installation of upgrades and patches as they become available.

4. Ensure the quality of vendor-performed installations of Oracle, Banner, and
Unix/Linux related products. Install version upgrades and patches to the Oracle
DBMS and to the Unix and Linux operating system instances, as needed.
Install and maintain Oracle-related products—e.g., TOAD and Oracle Developer
Suite.

5. Support Oracle application developers to ensure the integrity of the database.
Create schemas for developers with appropriate permissions levels. Control the
movement of newly developed applications and application objects from
‘development’ to ‘test’ and to ‘production’.

6. Participate with developers and users in the design-phase of new development
projects to include the definition of data models, table layouts, indexing
schemes, and the underlying database architecture for new applications.

7. Ensure that other members of the Information Resources and Services (IRS)
group are able to successfully perform critical database and operating system
administration in your absence, by providing proper knowledge transfer through
appropriate documentation and training as needed.

8. Assist users in the resolution of functional issues as they relate to the use of
Banner and other Oracle-based products.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or Professional Certifications or Demonstrated KSA in specialized field
EXPERIENCE: 3 Years related experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge and skill in Unix and Oracle database architecture, and SQL and Oracle applications
development tools.
2. Knowledge of relational database design – normalization, optimization, etc. Oracle SQL and
PL/SQL.
3. Knowledge and skill in command/control language, programming languages, applications,
programs, and troubleshooting procedures.
4. General knowledge of computer theory and operations, network environments, system security
and data communications functions.
5. Effective interpersonal skill as applied to interaction with a culturally diverse populations, college
administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public
6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in accomplishing tasks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties require some physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials.
Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of
standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
