AARNet & the NBN
 Welcome this development
 Collaborate/cooperate
 Immediacy is Key – some Projects require action now!
 Applaud the “Black Spots” Programme
 Regulatory Reform is Vital

Layered Virtualisation
 Layer3= IP packet level, using standard VPN – multiparty, recognised by IP address, usually secure
(encrypted);
host software aware & implemented.
 Layer2= private Ethernet, NCN – multi-party, plug in at
Ethernet level, host transparent;
implemented in hardware/firmware/combination, in router?
Dynamic setup?
[real Ethernet vs virtual Ethernet].
 Layer1= optical circuit, hard-wired – simulated using
MPLS;
dynamic setup via DCN, Dragon, UCLP, etc.
