Aztec Vocabulary
The Aztecs
• A group of tribal warriors that ruled parts of
present-day Mexico from the 1200’s until
the 1500’s.
Hernan Cortes
• The Spanish conquistador who conquered
the Aztecs in 1521.
Montezuma II
• The last ruler of the Aztec world before the
invasion of Cortes and the Spanish in
1519.
chinampas
• Floating gardens on which the Aztecs
grew crops.
Tenochtitlan
• The capital of the Aztec world with a
population of over 200,000 people that
was located in present-day Mexico City.
