The Battle of Fort Sumter The date of the battle was on April 12 1861 and ended on April 14 1861. The Battle of Fort Sumter The Confederate Army surrounded the Unions fort and told them to surrender. The Battle of Fort Sumter This battle is important because it was the start of the Civil War. The Battle of Fort Sumter The flag fell and the Confederates thought the Union had surrendered. The Battle of Fort Sumter The Union Soldiers surrendered. They were given passage back to the North. So began the Civil War at Fort Sumner.
