from basket on table

popsicle stick (coach gave you at
door)
4. Begin working on vocab silently
Warm Up Word:
Cell Theory
Look at beaker of mud…
Answer question below in journal
 Do frogs come from mud? Does mud create
frogs? Why or Why not?
 Discussion:

sw
Then where do frogs come from?
 Discussion
 Hand out graphic organizer to go along
with power point to follow
Cells or
Slime?
Which did we
come from?
 The cell theory versus
spontaneous generation.
 PowerPoint by:
Katherine Pease
7th grade science
Before the discovery of the cell
people thought that living
organisms came from things like
mud, slime and even a knights
armor.
This was called
Spontaneous Generation.
But we now know that…
All life comes from cells.
Cell Theory Step 1
The basic unit of life is the cell.
Cell Theory
Step 2
 All living things
are made of 1 or
more cells
 Two main types
of Organisms…
Prokaryotes
Eukaryotes
2 Types of Organisms
 Prokaryote
Unicellular organisms having
cells that lack membrane-bound
nuclei
Examples:
Bacteria
Some protist
Some algae
2 Types of Organisms
 Eukaryote
 An organism with cells of all life
forms except primitive
microorganisms such as bacteria
 Can be multi-cellular or unicellular
3 Main types are…
Protest
Animals
Plants
Types of Eukaryotic Cells
Eukaryote Celled Organisms
 Protest
Free living or colonial
organisms that cells are
membrane-bound
 can be unicellular or
multi-cellular
Eukaryote Celled Organisms
Animals
Multi-cellular living organisms
that are unable to produce their
own energy (food).
Eukaryote Celled Organisms
Plant
Multi-cellular living organisms
that are able to produce their
own energy (food).
Plant cells (Ranunculus, i.e. buttercup root)
As the cell theory states…
 All living
organisms
come from and
are made up of
cells.
 We do not “just
appear” as
was once
thought.
