1. Psoas major- flexes and rotates
thighs, flexes vertebral column
a. Originates from transverse
process and bodies of the lumbar
2. Inserts at lesser trochanter of
the femur
2. Gluteus muscles
a. Maximus- extends rotates thighs
laterally
1. Origin is iliac crest, sacrum,
and coccyx
2. Inserts at lateral linea aspera
and under greater trochanter
b. Medius- abducts and rotates thigh
1. Origin is ilium
2. Inserts at greater trochanter
c. Minimus- abducts and rotates thigh
1. Origin is ilium
2. Inserts at greater trochanter
3. Superior and inferior gemellusabduct and rotate thigh
a. Originate at ischial spine
(superior) and tuberosity (inferior)
b. Both insert at greater trochanter
of the femur
4. Adductor longus and brevis- adducts,
medially rotates, and flexes thigh
a. Longus originates from the
pubic crest and pubic symphysis
b. Brevis originates from the
inferior ramus of the pubis
c. Both insert at the linea aspera
but brevis is toward the upper half
