The Breakdown of Igneous Rocks Igneous rocks are classified by Origin Texture Composition Igneous Rocks The primary material that makes up Earth’s surface •Comes from the Latin word Ignis meaning “fire” •Forms from Lava or magma •Forms from minerals and contains crystals •They were the first rocks on Earth ~ forming when the planet started to cool.
