Landforms Social Studies Goal 5.01 2nd Grade Amelia Unterreiner July 14th, 2009 Main Menu Content Post-Test End Show Credits Mountains Mountains are the tallest part of the land. They usually have steep, sloping sides and sharp or rounded ridges. There are different kinds of mountains, such as Volcanic Mountains, Plateau Mountains and Dome Mountains. Valleys Valleys are the spaces between tall areas of land, like mountains. They may look like a “U” or a “V”. They are created by lakes and streams and also by the glaciers that once covered most of the earth. Plains Plains are broad, flat lands which are covered with grass. There are different kinds of plains: Floodplains, River Plains and Coastal Plains. These are all named after what they were formed by. Deserts Deserts are broad, flat areas of land covered in rocks and sand. These areas are dry and will receive very little rain. They can be as cold in the night as they are hot in the day. Coastline Coastlines are the strip of land bordering the sea on a continent or island. They are constantly changing due to the tides. Each wave can take a little or a lot of the coastline away into the waters. Find more examples of these landforms at the links below: Mountains Valleys Plains Deserts Coastlines I am standing in very flat place where it is very dry and hot.
