Cities, towns, and neighborhoods are often laid
out on a grid. This makes it easier to map and
find locations.
A coordinate grid is formed by horizontal and
vertical lines and is used to locate points.
Each point on a coordinate grid can be located
by using an ordered pair of numbers, such as
(4, 6). The starting point is (0, 0).
• The first number tells how far to move
horizontally from (0, 0).
• The second number tells how far to move
vertically.
