What is a factor?
• A factor is a number which multiplied by
another gives a product.

product
●
All numbers have 1 pair of factors → 1 & itself.
●
Number are of 2 types:
1) Prime: only 1 pair of factors
2) Composite: more than 1 pair of factors.
Prime Factorization
• Prime factorization is the process of
breaking down a number to factors which
are all prime.
• Find the prime factorization of 42

Factoring and GCF
• Factoring is breaking a monomial into its
prime factors.
• Finding the GCF then is stating all the
factors 2 (or more) expressions have in
common
