Linking Verbs
• connect a sentence’s subject with a
noun or an adjective in the
predicate.
• are followed by a word in the
predicate that tells what a subject is
or is like.
Predicate Nouns
• Tell what the subject is.
• Is still a person, place, or (more
usually) a thing.
Predicate Adjectives
• Tell what the subject is like.
• Describe the subject.
Common Linking Verbs
