Improving Sentence Fluency
•Sentences must be well-built:
--Simple subject(s) must agree with the simple
predicate (verb).
*Mary and Johnny has a nice house.
*Did Jerry or Susie seems nicest?
--Sentences must be parallel in structure:
*Mary is very pretty, intelligent, and gets
good grades.
*Mary wants to be a doctor, but Johnny likes
his younger sister better than Mary.
Improving Sentence Fluency
•Sentences must varied in construction.
--Variety of beginnings.
*Jennifer Aniston is an actress. She was
married to Brad Pitt. He later married
Angelina Jolie. They have many children.
*I like oldies rock & roll music. My
husband likes country. Our daughter
likes hip-hop. Our son likes country
pop.
--Sentences must have a strong rhythm and flow
when read aloud.
*I like toast, but not with jelly, but I kind of
like peanut butter on it, sometimes.
*I have an old wallet, which I got it from my
grandpa when I was five or six, and it is really
worn out now, ripped and faded and waterstained.
--Sentences must have a variety of lengths. (3-30
words)
*Jason is a member of the Jones family.(7)
He has five brothers.(5) They are Jerod,
Jack, Joseph, and Jerry.(6) Jason is very
nice. (4) His brothers are very nice, too. (5)

*If I could be anything I wanted to be, I would
