Direct Objects What do you know? Action verbs tells what the subject is doing or did. Direct Object: Tells who or what receives the action expressed in the Action verb. Can be noun or pronoun and may be compound. Find the action verb and ask, “<Subject><Action verb> who/what?” Examples: Bill walked his dog. Bill walked what? Bill bought a sand dollar. Bill bought what? He slept late. He slept what/who…? He greeted Tom. He greeted who? Direct Objects What is the direct object? One exhibit showed a mummy from Egypt. Luke had studied fossils.
