Direct Objects
What do you know? Action verbs tells what the subject is
doing or did.
Direct Object: Tells who or what receives the action
expressed in the Action verb. Can be noun or pronoun
and may be compound. Find the action verb and ask,
“<Subject><Action verb> who/what?”
Examples:
Bill walked his dog. Bill walked what?
Bill bought a sand dollar. Bill bought what?
He slept late. He slept what/who…?
He greeted Tom. He greeted who?

What is the direct object?
One exhibit showed a mummy from Egypt.
Luke had studied fossils.
Please notice them in the rock.
Mr. Garcia also played.
The display featured plants and animals of
the desert.
We laughed at the joke.
