Rock Cycle
• What is the Rock Cycle?!
Rock Cycle
• The rock cycle starts off in the mantle.
• The mantle is the part of the earth that
goes from the Earth’s crust to the core.
• Here, magma is being forced up through
the Earth’s curst. Some of the magma
escapes through little holes in the volcano
while the other rests on the Earth’s
surface.
Rock Cycle:
• When hot magma exits the volcano on the
surface, it becomes lava (oracle, 2000).
• Igneous rocks are formed when the lava
cools.
• Some of the rocks end up in the ocean.
• Sediments may be carried by weathering.
Rock Cycle:
• Over time, layers of sedimentary rocks are
built up and those layers create
sedimentary rocks (Oracle, 2000).
• There are layers at the bottom that have a
lot of pressure and this creates
metamorphic rocks.
Rock Cycle:
• These rocks turn into magma and the
whole rock cycle starts over again (Oracle,
2000).
Group Work:
• Make a creative poster, song, or poem on
the Rock Cycle!
