Spersanicol® Generic name : Chloroamphenicol Trade name: Spersanicol ® Spersanicol® Properties and effect: chloroamphenicol is low molecular , primarily lipophilic antibiotic which is active against gram- positive and gram- negative bacteria such as salmonella and chlamydiae . It has been show to act impairing bacterial protein synthesis . Spersanicol® Indication: Bacterial infection of the anterior portion of eye lids and tear duct. Infection prophylaxis pre- and postoperatively, after chemical or other burn. Trachoma, herpes zoster opthalmicus. Spersanicol® Dosage/ use: Eye drops: Instill1 drop 2-4 times daily in the conjunctival sac. Acute case: up to 1 drop every hour Ointment: Apply a 3-5 strip of ointment 2-4 times daily into the into the lower conjunctival sac . acute case: every 2 hour. Spersanicol® Adverse reaction: Rare allergic reaction (eczema of the lid margins) Following long term topical (2-3 month) with chloroamphenicol ,aplastic anemia has occasionally been observed Spersanicol® Drug Interaction: Spersanicol should not be administered concurrently with bactericidal substance (penicillin ,cephalosporin ,gentamicin , tetracycline ,vancomycin ) or in conjunction with systemic treatment with drug affecting hematopoisis ,sulfonylureas ,coumarin derivative hydantoin or methotrexate. Spersanicol® Stability: Store eye drop in refriergerator (2-8°C). Close bottle and tube immediately after use . Once opened ,the eye drops should not be kept longer than one month. Any medication left over after completion of treatment should be discarded. If unopened , Spersanicol eye drops and ointment can be used until the expiry date on the package.
