Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology (MCDB) is an area of graduate study and research in the Department of
Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). The Ph.D. program prepares students for a broad range
of careers in the life sciences, including basic and medical research, teaching, biotechnology and more. Cutting-edge
research emphasizes important questions in areas such as cell biology, developmental biology, neurobiology, gene
expression, chromatin structure/function, signal transduction, protein transport and structural biology through studies of
genetic models including bacteria, single-celled eukaryotes, animals and plants.
