What it is
• Bacteria that causes infection
• Discovered over 100 years ago
• Commonly found in young children
Shigella Bacteria
How you get it
• Often found in raw and
undercooked pork products
• Spread when infected
people/water come in contact with
food
Shigella Travel
Symptoms
• Stomach cramps and diarrhea
• Some cases: joint pains, skin rash,
eye irritation, painful urination

Prevention
• No vaccine
• Handwashing
• Antibiotics
