 Producers are organisms that make their own food
 Also called autotrophs
Consumers
 Consumers are organisms that get their energy by eating
other living things
 Also called heterotrophs
Types of Consumers
 Herbivores: eat plants
 Carnivores: eat animals
 Omnivores: eat plants AND animals
 Detritivores: eat detritus, which is dead organic matter
 Mainly sea slugs, earthworms
 Decomposers: break down organic matter into simpler
compounds
 Mainly bacteria and fungi
Food Chain
 Sequence that links species by their feeding relationships
