Is the dominant
trait
most prevalent?
We surveyed our class to see how many students
showed dominant or recessive traits. The seven
traits surveyed were, mid-digit hair, pinky, color
blindness, dimples, forelock, thumb, and types of ear
lobes. These results along with the rest of the results
submitted by students in the project were analyzed.

Process & Results
• We totaled # of people surveyed and totals
for each trait .
• We decided if the dominant or recessive
trait was present for each of the 7 traits
examined in this project.
• We graphed our findings on excel.
What we know about ear lobes
• Free ear lobes are (d)
• Attached ear lobes are (r)
(d)=dominant
®=recessive
More things about Ear Lobes
is…
• Dominant ear lobes are free ear lobes.
Dominant ear lobes are those that hang
below the point of attachment to the head.
• Recessive are attached ear lobes.
Attached ear lobes are attached directly to
the side of the head.
Attached ear lobes, the recessive trait,
the most Common in this study.

Traits
Have you ever
looked at your
thumbs to see if
they are straight or
curved? If your
thumbs are curved
you have the
recessive trait. If
your thumbs are
straight then you
have the dominant
trait. For the thumb
trait dominant was
found most
prevalent!

Ideas for the future
If we were to do this study again, we’d like to
survey such traits as:
• Left/right handed
• Tongue rolling and
• Hair color
