Mutant Phenotype: White leaves with green streaks, red stem.
Genotype: A recessive gene a lethal mutation.
The albescent1 (al1) mutation is on chromosome number 2.
The al1 gene has not yet been cloned.
The albescent1 mutation is recessive and
causes the corn plant to have white albino
corn leaves and a red stem.
Albino (non-green) corn plants die quickly
because they cannot produce their own food.
The mutation is lethal in homozygous form.
