Blaffer Art Museum Innovation Series
The Blaffer is presenting a series of public programs organized around the exhibit “Janet
Biggs: Echo of the Unknown.” The exhibit, running through March 21, features works inspired
by the artist’s memories of the effects of Alzheimer’s on family members. All events are on
the University of Houston campus. For free tickets, go to blafferartmuseum.org/tickets .
Noon Thursday: Dr. Lisa Genova, neuroscientist and author of “Still Alice.” Q&A led by Dr.
Joseph Masdeu, medical director of Nantz National Alzheimer Center at Houston Methodist
Hospital.
Noon Feb. 25: “Your Brain on Art: Understanding the Brain in Creative Action and Context,”
a talk by electrical and computer engineering professor Jose L. “Pepe” Contreras-Vidal.
Noon Feb. 26: UH law professor William Winslade speaks on legal, ethical and psychological
issues related to dementia.
Noon Feb. 27: Dancer-choreographer Becky Valls performs “Red Square” while wearing a
skullcap embedded with electrodes to track her brainwaves, causing them to alter the stage
lighting.
1 p.m. March 3: Lecture, neurologic music therapy.
3 p.m. March 10: Panel discussion, “The Serious Search for an Anti-Aging Pill.”
