Spring 2014
TERM PROJECT FOR ECON 202 (Macroeconomic Theory)
Country Macroeconomic Outlook Report
In this project you will prepare a country’s macroeconomic outlook report. It will be a
brief report on macroeconomic conditions of the country of your choice. Your report will
cover at least 20 years data analysis. The due date for the project is the first class (Monday) of
the last week of the semester. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Your report will consist of data analysis and an assessment of the data (through making
readings on your country). In data analysis part, you have to present your data precisely by
using graphs in excel (or in a similar program). For example: if you are going to analyze
annual GDP data, then your graph must present at least 20 observations, i.e. GDP value
corresponding to each year in your data set. A brief presentation about how to work with data
in excel will be carried out in the lecture. You are expected to present the following graphs
and their analysis.
1) The GDP and economic growth trajectory of your country?
In this part, you will discuss the real GDP and its growth rate, and the contribution of
each demand component (i.e. private consumption, investment, government
consumption, and net exports) to the growth rate.
DATA: GDP (constant=real) pr GDP per capita, final consumption expenditure (% of
GDP), general government consumption expenditure (% of GDP), gross fixed capital
formation (% of GDP), and external balance on goods and services (% of GDP).
2) The trade performance of your country?
DATA: Export, import, current account, etc.
