The main problems of the urban structure of the metropolis
of São Paulo.
• Infrastructure concentration (especially traffic system
and transports) generating strong differentiation of prices
and thus:
– Concentration of employment
– Concentration of population of high income in the same region of
employment
– Expulsion of the low income population for areas without
infrastructure
– Occupation of areas of preservation of sources for low income
population
Stage of predominantely extensive development
• very high development due to the extension of the wage labour and
the increase of productivity
• very low standard of living for the labour force
• no need of qualified workers
