Classification ofofplants Classification plants This is an example of how you could classify plants Plants Flowering plants Non flowering plants Montocolyedons Diocotyledons FLOWERING PLANTS We get most of our food from flowering plants such as grains, beans, nuts, fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices. A flowering flower makes other flowers in its reproductive cycle. Female flowers contain pistils which is the seed bearing organ of a flower. Pistils create seeds when fertilized by pollen from a male flower. NON-FLOWERING PLANTS Non flowering plants do not have flowers. They have to reproduce in their own way. Non flowering plants grow from pores not seeds. Pores are little holes in the plant which liquids or gas can go into. Montocolyedons Monocots is one of the two largest flowering plants group. A monocot has one seed leaf. Moncots have narrow leaves with veins going in the same direction as the leaf. The leaves have smooth edges and hollow or soft stems. Diocotyledons Diocots are the other half of the two largest groups of flowering plants. Diocots have two seed leaves. The older leaves have netted patterned veins on them. Usually a Diocots flower has five or four parts. Monocots vs. Diocots What is the difference? The difference between them is a monocots have one seed leaf and a Diocots have two seed leaves. Monocots have parallel veins to the leaf and Diocots have netted pattered veins. The Key Q1. Does it Flower? a) No. Then it is a non flowering plant. b) Yes. Go to 2. Q2. Does it have two seeded leaves? a) Yes. It is a Diocotyledons. b) No. It is a Montocolyedons. For watching my presentation on plants Created by Antonio Afragola
