Easter eggs, according to
tradition, were collected
from nests in the
Wednesday before Easter,
painted on Thursdays,
never Fridays .
Egg painting is a symbol
of the Saviour, which
leaves his tomb and
returns to life, like
chicken out of the egg.
The symbols and significations
for painting eggs are:
Vertical straight line = life;
Straight horizontal line =
death;
Double line right = eternity;
Line rectangles = thinking and
knowledge;
Slightly wavy line = water
purification;
Spiral = time, eternity;
 Double helix = connection
between life and death.
Is said that Mary sat the basket
with eggs near the crucified
Saivior cross and eggs were
reddened by the blood of
Christ
Knocking eggs is doing with
precise rules: older person
(usually male) knock the head
of the egg with egg handheld
by his partner, while telling the
famous formula "Christ is
Risen", the answer is “Yes, is
true" .
In Bukovina, the girls go on the night of Easter in the belfry and
washed the bell with water. With this water they washes their face in
the morning of Easter, to be beautiful and loved. Boys have to go
with flowers to their houses and the girls, to show their consent to
their feelings, have to give them a red egg.
In the Easter morning, the people are going in the yard of
the church with candles. They are sitting in a circle and
wait for the priest to blessed them and their food from
Easter basket. After that, all people are going at home and
enjoy with their families.
In Moldova, in the Easter morning the people put in a bowl
with water one red egg, one withe egg and some coins. The
children have to wash their faces with this water for beeing helth,
rich and to have red cheeks.
