• Foliage and flowers emerge on
stalks from tuberous bulb
• Slightly rounded heart-shaped,
dark green leaves sometimes
with silver markings and toothed
margins
• Flowers with wide petals that
may be frilled or twisted are
born on slender, dark stalks with
flowers standing about foliage
• Colors – Pink, red, white, salmon,
purple, magenta, some with dark
throats

• Multiple flower bearing

• Flowers come in all shades
except blue and true red

to 3 inches in width
• Colors- white, shades of pink,
orange, red, yellow, purple, and
many combinations of colors
• Some varieties may have very
fringed petals and may be
fragrant
