Fact number 1
• An area of the Rainforest the size of a Football
field is being destroyed each second by
humans who are cutting down the trees to
make furniture and other things made of
wood.
Fact number 2
• Giant bamboo plants can grow up to 9 inches
a day. Bamboo is used for making lots of
things including, musical instruments, houses,
furniture and is the main food of the giant
panda.
Fact number 3
• The trees of a tropical rainforest are so
densely packed that rain falling on the canopy
can take as long as 10 minutes to reach the
ground. There are about 560 billion trees in
the Amazon Rainforest.
Fact number 4
• In the moist rainforests of South America,
sloths move so slowly that algae are able to
grow in their fur. Sloths have three toes and
mainly eat leaves.
Fact number 5
• Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth's
land surface; now they only cover 6% and
experts estimate that the last remaining
rainforests could be gone in less than 40 years.
