Pg. 112 RTW: How was your long
weekend?
 Objective: I will be able to understand the impact
humans have on the environment.
 Agenda:
 Addicted to Plastics Video & Questions
 Homework:
 None 
Addicted to Plastic Video Questions
1.
"If there are safer alternatives on the market, why not change?" Why
won't corporations change?
2.
What would be the benefit of making plastic infinitely recyclable?
3.
"Instead of cheerleading plastic as a cheap and disposable material, why
not cherish it as the finite and valuable material it is?" Describe several
examples of how used plastic is valuable.
4.
What should our relationship be with synthetic materials? (in this case
plastic)
5.
What does it mean when products are "downcycled"?
6.
Name one thing that is made from plastic that you can change to a non
plastic item today (easy). Name one thing that will be very difficult to
find a non plastic replacement. .

Pg. 112 RTW: What alternatives to
plastics do we have?
 Objective: I will be able to identify marine invasive
species, their effects on the marine ecosystem, and their
modes of introduction.
 Agenda:
 Invasive Species Notes pg. 113
 Start Invasive Species Project
 Homework:
 None 
Pg. 113
Invasive vs Non-native Species
 Invasive= an organism (plant, animal, fungus, or
bacterium) that is not native and has negative effects
on our economy, our environment, or our health.
 Not all introduced species are invasive.
 Invasive plants and animals are the second greatest
threat to biodiversity after habitat loss
 Non-native= an organism that is from another
continent, country, or area of the world
What makes a species invasive:
1.
They tolerate a variety of habitat conditions
2. They grow and reproduce rapidly
3. They compete aggressively for resources (like food,
water, and nesting sites)
4. They lack natural enemies or pests in the new
ecosystem
Invasive Species Project
 You will be partnered up and work together
to research an assigned invasive species.
 You will create a poster to share with the
class on your assigned species.
 Project will be due Friday, February 20th
Rubric: What you’ll be graded on
 You need to include:
 Native origin (10)
 Invaded location (10)
 Means of introduction (20)
 Typical environmental (10)
 Economic and/or social impacts (30)
 Potential control measures (10)
 Pictures (10)
