3. Positive, Negative, or No work?

3 Types of levers: The class of a
lever is determined by the location
of the effort force (E) and the load
(R) relative to the fulcrum (F).
First Class Lever

A ‘twist’ or rotation that is caused by a force acting at a

Lab Activity
1. Set up a meter stick in equilibrium with a force hanging

2. For each mass: Calculate the Force, measure the Distance
from the fulcrum, and calculate the Torque
