SPICE HOTEL SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT CYCLE http://spicehotel.wikispaces.com/ UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM H1.1 applies and explains an understanding of the nature and function of information technologies to a specific practical situation The current system used by Spice Hotel is a manual system. This current system takes a vast amount of time to access and change employee information, the new employee database system for Spice Hotel will be easier and quicker to access and change employee information. Spice hotel would advantage from producing prototypes where participants can better understand the new prototype with a ‘hands on’ more involved approach, also files that have been created for the prototypes can be used to develop the new system making the new system easier to create. MAKING DECISIONS H2.2 develops and explains solutions for an identified need which address all of the information processes Feasibility report: Two options have been identified for the Spice Hotel database solution Microsoft Access based database running on a Windows 2003 server platform, and a PostGre SQL based database running on an Ubuntu Linux platform. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages in the contexts of technical, economic, schedule and operational feasibility. Based on the results of the feasibility study, the Microsoft Access based solution was decided upon as the most viable solution for Spice Hotel. Gantt chart: DESIGNING SOLUTIONS H1.2 explains and justifies the way in which information systems relate to information processes in a specific context Design tools: - Context diagram staff id Payroll manager -Data dictionary Data employee details Look up staff id and determine wage grade level calculate wage Pay employee - Data flow diagram Payroll manager staff id Look up staff id and determine wage grade level Save payment information Payment information Employee payment information Pay employee staff id Wage grade level Description Example Staff id Employee’s staff identification number 100101 Surname Employee’s surname Cahill Given name Employee’s first name Michael Address Employee’s address 65 Kerry Street Suburb Employee’s residing suburb Newtown Postcode Employee’s residing suburb postcode 2201 Department Employee’s area of work Food and beverage Wage grade level Employee’s wage grade level 5 Employee award grade wage level Employee wage information Database: Spice Hotel employee information Data item Calculate wage Data item Description Example Surname, Given name Employee’s surname, employee’s first name Cahill, Michael Department Employee’s area of work Food and beverage Wage grade level Employee’s wage grade level 5 IMPLEMENTING H2.1 analyses and describes a system in terms of the information processes involved There are four conversion methods that may be utilised in implementing a solution. They are: 1. Direct conversion 2. Parallel conversion 3. Phased conversion 4. Pilot conversion Spice Hotel employee database: TESTING EVALUATING AND MAINTAINING H5.2 assesses the ethical implications of selecting and using specific resources and tools, recommends and justifies the choices Survey managers on the following: areas ease of use, implementation and training. 1 2 3 4 5 Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree S00020728 - MICHELLINE KAZZI, S00020746 – EMILIENE O’LACO & S00082572 - MICHAEL ZAOUK
