1- CsCl has a BCC unit cell containing 2 atoms, Cs in origin of the cell and Cl at the
centre of the cell. Describe the CsCl unit cell in terms of its primitive cell+basis. (3
point)
2- A crystal composed of two fractions, one having the a cell parameters of 4.123 Å and
the other of 3.997 are subjected to X-ray diffraction using both a Cu k-alpha and a Mo
k-alpha radiation. Derive the angular position (2) for (100) and (110) planes.
Explain the procedure you used for the calculation. (7 points)
3- Explain the relationship between the intensity of the peaks and the atomic form factor
of the Cs (fCs) and of the Cl (fCl). Which one of the 2 atomic form factors is expected
to be higher and why? (10 points)
