Passive Transport

Active Transport
Passive Transport
 Passive Transport- the passing of
molecules through a membrane
without the use of chemical energy.
 Homeostasis/Equilibrium- the
regulating of the internal
environment of a cell.
Diffusion
 Diffusion-the movement of matter or
molecules across a membrane through
heat.
 Example: Air Fresheners, Iodine and
Starch
Facilitated Diffusion
 Facilitated Diffusion- the movement of
molecules across a membrane with the
help of proteins.
 Example: Glucose or
sugar being brought in
by the cell.
Active Transport
 The passing of molecules across
membranes using chemical energy.
 Endocytosis
 Pinocytosis
 Phagocytosis
 Exocytosis
Endocytosis
 Endocytosis- is the passing of large
molecules (extracellular fluid ECF’s)
through the cell membrane into the cell.
 Types of Endocytosis:
 Pinocytosis- the cell brings in water
molecules (like like drinking)
 Phagocytosis-the
cell brings in bacteria
(like eating)
Exocytosis:
 Exocytosis-the cell pushes out excess
molecules and particles.
 Getting rid of waste.
Now you know what passive
transport is and what active
transport is…
 With your partner take out a piece of paper.
 Together you will make illustrations of each
type of passive transports (3)
 And each type of active transports (4)
 Once you are finished turn around to the
people behind you.
 One group will explain passive transport the
other group will explain active transport using
your illustrations for both.
 Use your notes!!
