What is the sun?
• The sun is a star which maintains life
on earth and controls the weather and
temperature. It in an unusual star as it
is not large or small, nor old or young.
The sun is the closest star to earth and
is studied the most by scientists.
The sun has three outer layers; the Photosphere,
the Chromosphere, and the Corona.
THE PHOTOSPHERE: The photosphere has the
same chemical elements which are found on
earth. The air gets more solid as you move from
space to its solar core.
THE CHROMOSPHERE: The gases which
expand away from the Photosphere make up the
Chromosphere. These gases are clear and see
through compared to most able-to-be-seen rays
and is about 2500 km thick. The thickness of the
gases go down as you move away from the
Photosphere, but the temperature goes up!!
THE CORONA: The Chromosphere combines
into the outermost of the Sun’s atmosphere, the
Corona. The Corona extends for millions miles
into space past the Photosphere. Usually, the
Corona cannot be seen because the
Photosphere is too bright. The Corona’s density
is about 0.0000000001 times the Earths sealevel. It is extremely hot. Millions of Degrees.

made of?
• The sun has no actual
surface. It is made up of
gases such as hydrogen
(around 70%) and helium
(about 28%) Carbon,
nitrogen, and oxygen also
come together to make up
1.5% and other 0.5% which
are elements that make up
sulphur, neon, iron,
magnesium and silicon. The
sun shines because hydrogen
is burning into helium, which
over time means there is
more helium than hydrogen.
Has anyone ever been on the sun?
Is anyone going to?
• No-one has ever been on the sun, as its
temperature is extremely hot and no
human could possibly survive it’s
impossibly high temperatures.
What is the temperature of the
sun?
• At the centre of the sun, the temperature
averages to about 15,000,000 degrees
Celsius and pressure of about 200,000
million times the air pressure on earth.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the sun is a strange star
and is extremely hot, too hot for any
human to survive. The sun is made up
of many different gases which make
up no actual surface. The sun controls
our weather and climate and is very
extra ordinary.
