Breaks down food
so the body can
use it for energy
• Food is taken in by the mouth is chewed and swallowed.
•The food moves down through the long, straight
tube called the esophagus and into the stomach.
• From there it passes through the small intestine.
• Finally, food moves through the large intestine.
•From there the food moves into the rectum which is the last part of the large
intestine where undigested waste is stored until it leaves the body.
