ABOUT RAMANUJAN COMPUTING CENTRE
Ramanujan Computing Centre (RCC) is a central
computing facility catering to the computing needs
of students and staff of College of Engineering, Anna
University. It is functioning round the clock on all
days. In addition, RCC is maintaining application
software, Campus Network, Internet services and
offering training programme on programming
languages,
network
management,
database
administration, e-commerce and e-governance.
RCC has designed, built up and maintains the
Campus Network facility and nearly 3000 computers
are connected to it. Campus network internet is
connected through 2 Mbps leased line from VSNL
and another 2 Mbps shared leased line from ERNET
is also added. A variety of network components have
been installed including 3Com, Cisco and Foundry
products in various departments. The major
backbone distribution switch is located at RCC and
other distribution centre switches in the department
are Layer 2 Fast Ethernet switches.

INTRODUCTION
COURSE METHODOLOGY
Networking has become an essential component
and basic requirement of any IT system. In network
the speed of transfer of information flowing is
always depends upon both Bandwidth of the
network and traffic flow across the system. A
poorly designed network may be the bottleneck for
any organization to achieve the desired level of
goals. The network may not be able to meet the
requirements of the present level of the traffic and it
may not provide the expected results or it may
cause a complete chaos. The information flowing
through any network depends on its actual design
and expected future development. Organizations
have increased its size many folds but they have not
created the required infrastructure or they may not
have been thought of such expansion. Now the time
has come to rethink for the design of a complete
network, which can be optimized, and future
oriented.
The course will be conducted by the faculty of the
university, drawn from other reputed institutions and
industries through a blend of lectures, tutorials,
hands on practices, and case studies.
