Prescription Drug Monitoring for Patients who are Prescribed Pain Medications
LabCorp offers pain management drug
testing profiles that provide physicians with
information relevant to the treatment of
patients who are prescribed pain medications.
LabCorp pain management drug tests can
assist in monitoring patients and help detect
prescription drug diversion.
Clinical Application
Customer Support
LabCorp provides support staff specifically trained to assist
pain management drug testing accounts. The support staff
is available through a dedicated toll-free number or e-mail,
888-883-5017 or [email protected].
Innovative Information Technology Solutions
LabCorp offers innovative information technology solutions
to meet specific program management needs. Multiple
connectivity options provide customers with secure access
to result information.
To assist in identifying potentially dangerous drug interactions,
LabCorp’s pain management drug test profiles include both
illicit and prescription drugs. Pain management drug testing
is performed at levels appropriate for drugs prescribed in
pain treatment, which are lower than levels typically used in
workplace testing. LabCorp’s pain management profiles include
specimen validity testing to identify dilute, adulterated, or
substituted specimens that may affect test results.
eLabCorp offers:
Simple on-line ordering
Order management and tracking
On-demand result printing
Exceptional Service
Patient Services
Toxicology Technical Assistance
LabCorp provides a toll-free telephone line for physicians
and their staff to obtain pain management drug testing
technical assistance, 888-883-5017. Senior technical staff
are available during regular business hours. Technical
assistance requests may also be submitted via e-mail to
[email protected], and a telephone
response will be provided.

Additional connectivity options:
• Electronic data interchange
• Automatic faxing of results
LabCorp accepts most insurance plans and provides insurance
billing where allowed. LabCorp’s billing systems have the
flexibility to offer either account or patient billing to meet
varying pain management program needs. For patient
convenience, specimen collections are available through many
of LabCorp’s more than 1600 patient service centers (PSCs)
located throughout the US.

Specimen Requirement
Specimen Urine (random)
Volume 50 mL
Container Urine container
Storage Instructions Maintain specimen at room temperature. If arrival at the lab extends beyond seven days, then refrigerate.
A
Methodology Initial test by immunoassay; confirmation of initial test positives by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or liquid
chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)
B
Methodology Immunoassay; confirmation testing may be added by contacting LabCorp.
C
If confirmation is performed an additional fee will be charged.
Additional drugs are available on request to meet the specific needs of varying pain management programs. Quantitative levels are provided for most confirmed positive drug results.
*Clonazepam (Clonopin®) and/or lorazepam (Ativan®) may be detected at higher concentrations (>3000 ng/mL); for patients prescribed these
drugs test 763910 is also recommended.
Specialty Tests
Pharmacogenetics
LabCorp offers cytochrome P450 (2D6, 2C19) genetic testing that can be useful in identifying individuals who may have an adverse
drug reaction or a poor response to medication based on specific genotypes of these drug metabolizing enzymes. Certain variants of
cytochrome P450 alter the rate of drug metabolism and may cause increased or decreased drug efficacy or adverse drug reactions. For
more information, please view our Test Menu at www.LabCorp.com.
Serum Drug Monitoring
To assist physicians in providing comprehensive care for patients receiving pain medications, LabCorp offers a full menu of clinical and
esoteric tests. Available tests include serum drug monitoring for commonly prescribed anticonvulsants, antidepressants, antipsychotics,
anxiolytics, muscle relaxants, and narcotics that may be prescribed in conjunction with pain therapy.
For more information, or to set up a pain management drug testing program, contact us at
[email protected] or 888-883-5017.
